One Credit Union understands that your trust in us depends on how well we keep your personal, business, and account information secure. We take an active role to ensure that your information is secure whether you choose to contact us in our branches, by using our ATMs, by telephone, or online.
One Credit Union uses industry accepted security practices that are appropriate for the way you choose to interact with us. For your protection, no matter how you contact us, we verify that you are who you say you are before granting you access to your accounts. Additionally, our systems use firewalls and encryption to protect your information from others.
Security Controls and Browser Requirements
We understand that the security of your personal and account information is important to you. To assist us in offering financial services in a secure manner, we use a number of controls described below. These controls allow us to verify your identity when you access services and protect your information as it travels over the Internet between us and your computer.
To access personal financial information on our web site, you must verify your identity by providing your account number, password, and answer security questions. This feature allows for verification that the information you submitted is accurate and assures that no one can take advantage of your account. To provide additional protection, a timeout feature is used within online access. This feature automatically logs you out of your account after an extended period of time. Re-establishing and authenticating your credentials for your online session helps to reduce unauthorized access to your accounts with us.
Our site requires the use of secure browsers to protect you while you access our online services. Secure browsers allow you to communicate with our web site in a protected session by encrypting information that flows between you and the site. To verify that your session is secure, look for https: instead of http: in the URL address line, and a secure symbol (for example, closed padlock or key) on the status bar of your browser located on the lower part of the screen. For greater security when viewing your account information over the Internet, we require that you use a browser with 128-bit encryption.
The One CU web site and your information is protected by a series of firewalls put in place to maintain your privacy. Firewalls are designed to permit only specific types of transactions through to our system. To determine if a web site, or a portion of a web site is secure, look for a padlock icon in the lower right corner of the page.
How You Can Help
While One Credit Union will always provide security to protect your information, we believe it is extremely important for you to actively participate in safeguarding your financial privacy. Use these tips to protect yourself and your accounts when using online access:
- Never share your password with anyone. Remember, a credit union representative will never ask you for your online password.
- We recommend that you change your password on a regular basis. If you think your password has been compromised, change it and contact us immediately.
- One CU will never request personal information from you via email. Do not respond to emails requesting personal financial information including your social security number, account numbers or passwords. Never send your personal account information or other personal information in an email when contacting us. Delete emails with attachments from unknown sources.
- ONLY log in at www.onecu.org. Please do not click on any link in messages that appear to be from One CU. Protect yourself against fraudulent websites by opening a new web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer or Netscape) and typing in the www.onecu.org every time you log in to your account.
- Consider using a personal firewall to prevent hackers from invading your personal computer, especially if you are using DSL or a cable modem to access the Internet.
- Install virus protection software and scan all disks and downloaded software, before use.
- When you are done with your online transactions, always click on the Log Out button to exit and prevent further access to your account. When using a public PC (such as in a library or school), also close the browser when you are finished.
